Post Having to "Select Data Source" every time a job ru Reply with quote
Hi,

I've just gotten a new computer and am having trouble with jobs I created previously.

It has been a long time since I built the queries I'm using so I have no recollection of what I did intially. I started from scratch trying to figure it out and what I've done so far is to create a Database Profile and a Machine Data Source, both with the name "Shared JN Database". When I test the connection, it works fine. Within the query wizard, in step 2, I chose the "Shared JN Database" as the Database Profile and pasted in the SQL code from a query that I know works. When I run the job manually or through the scheduler, I get the Select Data Source screen. Once I click on the Machine Data Source tab and select the "Shared JN Database" data source, the query runs fine.

What do I need to do to get my queries to run without having to manually intervene with the Select Data Source screen?

Thanks,
Shawn

If you get this message from Windows ODBC, please make sure you have all required properties filled in.

If you get this message from 24x7, you are running Vista and you are not running 24x7 in admin mode (Run As Admin). It doesn't matter how you login to the system, Vista by default runs everything in low privileged mode, it doesn't care if you are local admin or not. So if you are not running it in admin mode, Vista keeps erasing and replacing all registry and config file changes you make when creating database profiles and other configuration related things. As soon as you close the program or start a different instances, all your changes are gone.

Thanks for the info!

I still can't progress because I don't know how to change to admin mode.

- Sorry to be such a novice!

I think I inferred that my "new" computer had Vista on it. I apologize for that. My company has not made the move to Vista yet so I have a brand new computer, running XP. I looked for a similar article for XP on the web site you referred to but didn't find anything.

Let's try a simple test.
1. Shutdown 24x7 if is running
2. Open DOS prompt, type CD "C:\Program Files\24x7 Automation 3" hit Enter key
3. Type 24x7.exe, hit Enter key again.
4. Try running any job. Please let us know if you still get the same message about queues not started.

I went through these steps and I'm still having to select the data source before a job will run.

Is this an ODBC connection?

Please post a screenshot of the message you are getting. I wander if you are getting a message from ODBC or database driver, not from 24x7.

This is an odbc connection. I'm not getting any kind of error message but the screen on the attached file pops up, halting everything until I identify the data source for every job.

Ok. It comes from ODBC. The ODBC profile name you specified in the 24x7 settings for the connection either doesn't exists (misspelled?) or not defined as a system data source or not of all its required properties have been completed (in ODBC profile settings, make sure you have server, user entered correctly)

I'm attaching another screen print. The database is set as a system data source and I can't find anything wrong in the spelling. I don't need a password to access the files.
