I am wondering since we do not want to install apache on all of our batch servers that run the 24x7 scheduler can we connect from one box that has the web console on it to all the batch server running the 24x7 master? I have read the web console document but it tells me to
"To activate job database security:
1 Open 24x7 Scheduler graphical interface on the server (do not confuse this with the web-based
Management Console)
2 Select Tools menu, then click Security submenu, and then click Job Database Users and Permissions
item. The Job Database Security dialog will appear.
3 Check Enable user level security in this job database box.

but i cant find this. On my master i tools / options / security and the it just lets me select Unix and Linux security options FTP or PAM .

This might be a stupid question but on the add users i can select a username and group but where is the password? Am i supposed to add a user that matches a linux user on the box the master scheduler resides?

Yes, you can use 1 web console to manage as many servers as you want. That's why the console allows you to enter Server name (or IP) address on the login page. If you enter several server names, connect after each entry, the browser will automatically turn this field and a dropt-down list.

The steps you described in your message are good for 24x7 Windows edition only. If you need the same for MP edition, please use Tool/Users. In MP you can also edit users file directly, there is no need to start it in GUI mode or sop or restart. User names and their groups are reloaded dynamically during each connect.

The 24x7 Windows version maintains its own users, not related to OS users, and that's why you need to enter passwords in the GUI. The MP version relies on OS/network users, that's why you don't need to enter any passwords. Basically PAM and/or FTP methods are used to authenticate users during the login. Depending on the chosen method, the authentication is done either by the FTP daemon + OS, or in case of PAM, by OS/or other enterprise security service associated with the current PAM module.
