SQL Assistant menu no-show when SSMS is started with RunAs |
|
1. Open SSMS normally.
2. Click 'New Query' button.
3. Blank query opens for editing and 'SQL Assistant' menu appears on the menu bar.
1. Open SSMS with right-click and RunAs a different user.
2. Click 'New Query' button.
3. Blank query opens for editing
4. 'SQL Assistant' menu DOES NOT appear on the menu bar.

The add-ins for SSMS are registered for the "current user" - this is how the add-ins interface handler is designed in SSMS.
So if you installed SA (SQL Assistant) for user A then started SSMS as user B the add-in registered in the A account is not loaded by SSMS. The solution is actually simple. Register the add-in for both users. Close and restart SA as user B. Open Options, locate MS Management Studio target on the Targets page, Expand advanced options, turn off and on SSMS Add-in option and click OK or apply buttons. Now if you start SSMS as user B you will see the same menu and functionality. After that it should work for both user A and user B.
