Error Starting Listener |
|
I have been running 24x7 version 3.4.24 for quite a while in distributed server mode to allow me to connect via remote agents. However, this weekend we stopped 24x7 scheduler for some server maintenance. When I try to re-start it I get the message "Error starting listener on port:1096 Distributed communications error." If I clear the "Distributed Server mode enabled" checkbox it runs fine.
In the past when I got this error it was always because 24x7 was running as a service or there was another instance running. I have checked the task manager and that does not appear to be the case this time.
One other thing to note, when the scheduler was shut down over the weekend we got a message "1 spawned process is still running. Shutting down the scheduler now may cause unpredictable results." The server was shut down anyway as the admin couldn't see where a job was running.
Thanks,
Jeff

you can use netstat -a DOS command to check what is using port 1096. If it is some other program, configure 24x7 or that other program to use a different port number. If nothing comes in the list for 1096, it must be your firewall that is blocking that port.

Had our server admin run netstat, the port was taken by another process. We switched to a new port and it is working fine.
Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks for the update. I guess after enabling the tracing you found an exception in the trace file indicating that the listener cannot start on the default port 1096

Sorry… wrong message thread. I intended to post the above message in another thread with a similar issue.
