Automate Job Database Export |
|
Hi,
Is there any way to automate the job database export process (into an oracle database preferably), where the output is exactly like the import/export wizard-export database functionality? I already have a job that exports the registry file and the DAT file for restoration purposes so that's great. However, the job database export process transforms everything into a flat-file format, so to speak, which eases the documentation of jobs and querying of metadata. Thanks!

You will need to do some programming using JAL or external 24x7 APIs or use the 24x7 Macro Recorder to script and reply what you doing it in the graphical console when importing/exporting manually. Obviously, the last method is simplest and doesn't require programming, but it also cannot be used when 24x7 is running as a service or minimized to the system tray.
The purpose of the import/export is to simply migration between different systems and to allow mass changes in job properties. Using it as a way to store everything permanently outside of the scheduler is likely not a good idea. All your job accounts, passwords, command lines, parameters, etc… becomes accessible to anyone who has access to the database, which can create a security hole of enormous proportions.
