Unable to activate Remote Agent Security |
|
Hi, we're getting ready to setup the remote control apps for our helpdesk and the option to activate the Remote Agent Privleges is disabled (the menu selection is grayed out). I've also noticed that there isn't a RACCESS file on the server (or test boxes for that matter). Have I missed something in the setup/install?
Thanks

Why Remote Agent security? You should be looking for Job Database Security options. There you can limit users and their access type.
I also suggest that for this type of access you use the web-based interface. You will have flexibility with the web interface, up to the point that you can design custom templates and pages for help-desk people.

I tried using the job database security on the master, I setup a user for restriced access with the following access [Access any folder & see properties of any job] (this is now unchecked), [Connect to this 24x7 Master Scheduler], and [Run/debug any job]. After I made the change on access any folder & see properties it now works as we would like. Brain fade on my part.
Thanks for the response. Also, the web-based interface is unwanted at this time from management.

I've setup the clients to access the 24x7 server with the Remote Control agent, I have one problem. Only one user can attach at a time. Is there a restriction on how many users can attach to the server? Could it also be the user type? I have them setup as "restricted users". FYI we do have a site license and it is showing as that in the help/about screen.
Thanks

Yes, they get a host connection refused. Here is the steps that i'm taking when I set them up.
1. Install software
2. Create connections, login as myself (administrator)
3. Have them create a password (they are set at user level security)
4. Save remote database and quit the program.
5. Restart client and have them login.
At this point if no one else is logged in they can get in to the remote system. Otherwise they get the host refused connection error. Could it be that the remote save dosen't save the database if someone else is logged in?
Thanks for your help.

Could it have anything to do with having "Asynchronous Operations" enabled or disabled in the remote host profile? I'm still trying to get this to work.

This may sound strange, but how many job queues do you have configured?

How is the software registered, I mean do you use a unique license key for every user?
Do you see any logon related messages in the scheduler.log indicating that remote connection is being refused for some reason? If yes, what do you get there?
Also, in the scheduler options on the Network page, do you have by any chance anything entered into the Options field?
If you enable the tracing options and run the scheduler in a graphical mode, can you see during connects new text appearing in the trace window? If yes, what do you see when connections are refused?

Ok here we go
How is the software registered, I mean do you use a unique license key for every user?
The software on the remote desktops are using a site license and it shows "Site" in red in the about screen. On the 24x7 server we have a single use license. Is there a way to upgrade that license without reinstalling the software?
Do you see any logon related messages in the scheduler.log indicating that remote connection is being refused for some reason? If yes, what do you get there?
No while testing I checked the schedule log and found no errors.
Also, in the scheduler options on the Network page, do you have by any chance anything entered into the Options field?
No the options field is blank.
If you enable the tracing options and run the scheduler in a graphical mode, can you see during connects new text appearing in the trace window? If yes, what do you see when connections are refused?
Haven't done that yet, this server runs critical jobs during every 2 minutes. I'll need to schedule that.

#1 could be an issue, but you can easily change it in the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SoftTree Technologies, Inc.\24x7 Scheduler\3.0\Serial value. You will need to restart the scheduler after updating the key.
#3 Please try entering MaxListeningThreads=10 and restart. Check if that helps.
