Post Big Problem !! Access to LOCAL_MACHINE required ?! Reply with quote

Dear 24x7,

Your 24x7 product is very nice and we are
about to roll out "24x7 Remote Control"
to our productive systems.

As all serious, secure Windows installations
we DON'T allow our users to write to the
LOCAL_MACHINE key. Now, your software needs
write access to this folder:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SoftTree Technologies"

If this can't be changed we are having a
serious problem. Please tell us that you
don't do this on purpose - or that it can
be configured somewhere ??

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Best Regards,

Manuel Permuy

Indeed access to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE is required. The client-side Remote Control is not a Notepad or other "user application" type of tool. Consider it as a system utility and as all system utilities it requires certain privileges. The tool is not intended for all users. It should be only used by Administrators (in all environment) and by Developers (in development environments only). If you are looking for a way to give other users access to the scheduler consider using alternative methods.

1. For giving access to the job log simply enable HTML Status Reports option and pick a landing directory on a shared drive or web server accessible by all users.
2. If you want more then that consider using one of the available 24x7 web-consoles. Your users will only need a web-browser to work remotely with the scheduler and of course you will need a web server to provide this service to them.
