Post 24X7 evaluation Reply with quote

We are looking at softtree's 24X7 scheduler as
one of the tools take care of over job management
project. What we are looking for are as folows

1)We would like to invoke jobs on 4 different
windows servers
2)The jobs on one server are dependant on another
server. For example the job1 starts with the file
landing on server 1. Job 1 invokes Job2
(Data Validation) on server2 and passes the
filename. Job2 invokes job3(Data Load) on server3
and passes the filename. There could be many such
job steams happening synchronously.
3)There is one process in our job stream that can
only run one instance. So it should queue at that
point.

Do you think 24x7 would work for this kind of requirement.
Can anybody give me feedback on this. To email me directly remove
xyz from email id.

Thanks

It can sure handle such tasks. To do this you will need to run one 24x7 Scheduler and 3 or 4 24x7 Remote Agents.

If you install 24x7 on one of the processing machines that you would need only 3 agents otherwise you would need 4 agents one for each processing machine.
You can create virtually any job dependencies no matter where and how your jobs will run.
24x7 supports multiple job queues as well as different job run modes including asynchronous, synchronous, detached and so on.
In addition it supports built-in job automation languages that can be used to in complicated cases for implementing virtually any job processing sequences, verifications and logical dependencies.

For the scenario I mentioned where I need to pass a variable between job1,2,3,4 running on server 1,2,3,4,
how would I go about it. Would I be using get and setglobalvariable or is there another mechanism. Pointers to a
simple example would be very appreciated.

Thanks,
Biju

In simple cases you can use get and setglobalvariable to pass single values or lists of values. In more complicated cases you can dynamically create, manipulate and pass files with any internal structure. In very complicated cases and can create and execute dynamic scripts along with variables, files and whatever else you may need. And of cource you can use some shared database to pass/save some intermediate results and values.
