Post Service not restarting and memory leak Reply with quote

The service is receiving access denied messages when trying to restart after saving a 24x7 job. The password in 24x7 and in the Windows 2000 services is correct. It was my understanding that the 3.4.1 version would take care of this. We also are constantly getting a memory leak where 24x7 will not release memory. It was up to 7GB today. What can I do to resolve these problems?

1: Access denied problem: Was the job saved? Can you modify job database file?

2: Memory leak: Enable "job execution statistics" option in 24x7 Tool/Options/Log and let it run for a couple of days. Analyze stats.log file and try to find a pattern. If you can find a pattern and identify jobs that cause memory leaks, set these jobs to run detached in order to separate them from the main process. This should help you to deal with memory leaks.

1: The Job was saved and I'm logged in as the local administrator when I make the changes. It's not something that happens everytime, just a random occurence.

2. job execution statistics are enabled and all of my jobs have been set to run in detached mode for quite some time. We still get the leak.

If 2 jobs try to write to the same file, it can cause one of them to fail because the file is locked by the other job. Please let us know the complete error message.

Have you checked the stats.log file? If yes, can you see any memory usage/leak pattern there?
How big is the leak? How many jobs do you run in average every day?

1: The complete error message is:

24x7 Scheduler: Unable to restart the 24x7 service. Access Denied! Try restarting the service using the Control Panel applet.

2: I just cleared the stat.log file so I can get a run of it for just today. What in the log file do I need to look for? A jump between the before memory usage and after memory usage or something else?

I think you expierience the following issue:
24x7 service is setup run under user account A
You logon to the machine as user B and using 24x7 GUI make changes in the job database. When you click the Save button 24x7 GUI saves your changes and then attempts to restart the service so it can pick new changes. At that point you get the "Access Denied!" error. If you can then manually restart the service please disregards this error as non-critical. Otherwise please login using the same user account.

The user logging into the system is the same one set up to start the service.
