This may happen only if you start the job manually using "Run Now". For details, please see "Job Processing Flow" topic in the help. Also, if a job is very CPU intensive it can create an impression of the GUI lock up, but it indeed it is just the CPU sharing problem. If this is the case, change job priority to "Low". That should help. Note that function of the "Run Now" is not for submitting job to the queue, but for testing it.
