Post TIMER ALREADY RUNNING Reply with quote

WE INSTALLED THE DEMO VERSION OF 24X7 AT WORK, TRIED IT AND LIKED IT. WE THEN PURCHASED A LICENSE AND SOFTWARE (V1.6) TO RUN ON AN NT 4.0 SP4 WORKSTATION AND REINSTALLED THE NEW PRODUCT. EVERY TIME WE REBOOT, AND WE TRY TO RUN THE LICENSED VERSION A PROMPT APPEARS SAYING THE TIMER IS ALREADY RUNNING HIT OK TO DISABLE TIMER OR CANCEL TO EXIT. THE ONLY WAY TO START THE TIMER IS TO SCHEDULE A TEST JOB FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES INTO THE FUTURE AND HOPEFULLY THE TIMER WILL START. THIS MAY REQUIRE SEVERAL TRIES. I'VE ELIMINATED ALL REFERENCES TO 24X7 IN ALL THE USER START UP DIRECTORIES, BUT IT STILL SEEMS TO LOAD FROM SOMEWHERE. THE NT TASK MANAGER SHOWS THE APPLICATION IS IN MEMORY AT REBOOT ALTHOUGH I CAN'T SEE HOW IT GOT THERE. I'D LIKE TO HAVE IT LOAD PROPERLY AT STARTUP. ANY IDEAS?

THANKS

You have already setup 24x7 to run as a service with "automatic" start option (See Control Panel/Services applet, also see Tools/Options/Service menu in the 24x7 Scheduler). Therefore, the 24x7 service automatically starts whenever you start your computer. When you manually start 24x7 Scheduler standalone version, it detects that the 24x7 service is already running and then it prompts you to disable the timer in the standalone version. This is done in order to prevent jobs from being kicked off twice (by service and simultaneously by standalone version). You should either remove or disable the service, to avoid this "Press OK to disable timer..." situation. To disable the service use Control Panel, to remove it uncheck "Run as Windows NT service" option in Tools/Options/Service.

THANKS FOR YOUR PROMPT RESPONSE - EVERYTHING IS RIGHT AS RAIN AGAIN. WE'RE PLANNING TO UPGRADE TO THE LATEST VERSION (V2.11 ??) HAS THERE BEEN ANY PROGRESS ON THE FILECOPYEX COMMAND THAT I POSTED LAST WEEK? IF SO WILL IT BE INCORPORATED IN THIS V2.11 RELEASE?

THANKS AGAIN
