[11.0.35 Pro] - BUG: To-Do Tasks and Reminders

Can you please let us know

1. If you start sascan.exe manually, and if you can it doesn't return any errors to the console, and your antivirus does not show any blocks or warnings?

2. The sascan.exe is visible in the Task Manager while Tasks and Reminders pane is open?

FYI, The sascan command is launched when the Task and Reminders pane is opened. And it remains resident until the pane is closed. This command scans folders and databases selected in the Task and Reminders configuration Creating/updating an index for various kinds of to-do items.

When the Task and Reminders pane is open, the sascan.exe process is present in the Task Manager (but it does not seem to be doing anything).

And you said there are no messages from sascan in the SQL Assistant log file, right? Could you please search it one more time for that sascan substring?

I don't remind saying that. I did say, however, that there are no entries for it in antivirus logs.

I want to add a couple things to this that I've experienced:

IN SSMS, Adding a database or server to the Task and Reminders never brings up a dialog, instead I get an unhandled exception error. In SQL Editor, I get a connection dialog and can add the DB/DBs/Servers in question. But scanning for TODOs never populates the Tasks/Reminders pane.

If the keyword (to do, todo, bug, hack) is not followed by a colon the hint doesn't show up in the syntax bar.

saCmd and saScan are both running in task manager when trying to do any of this.

Well somehow I got the todo to show up in the tasks/reminders pane, I had to select just the schema with the todos (eg dbo.MyDatabase) and not *.Mydatabase) and it worked, in SSMS anyway. In SQL Editor 64 the pane is blank and "update" doesn't seem to iterate through objects at the bottom of the pane like it does in SSMS. However SQL Editor 32 bit DID iterate through objects opening the pane and found my marked TODOs.

I hope this will give enough ammunition to the development team to identify the root cause of the issue and fix it.

We have narrowed this case down to 32-bit/64-bit driver database connections. When the target application is 32-bit, for example SSMS or VS, it seems to work fine. However when it's a 64-bit application and the connections use native drivers for MariaDB/MySQL, or ODBC for MSSQL, and there is no 32-bit ODBC driver installed for MSSQL (that's uncommon), things can go sour. We are working on resolving this issue. I ta may take some time to redesign some of the internal legacy interfaces to make them work correctly with 64-bit targets.

There's still something hinky with SSMS, because I cannot add database/schema/table targets without getting that unhandled exception. The only way I got that to work is via SQL Editor (32 bit, I want to say?) and add targets there... then the TODO scanning/updating works in SSMS.

So please keep that in mind as well, it may not be directly related to your update regarding the bitness of targets entirely.

EDIT:
It does work, however, there a couple of smaller issues. Check this short video here.

1. the Tasks and Reminders pane does not remember the user set widths of its columns and even if there is space to expand the columns without having to scroll left/right, it still shrinks them so some (most) of the file name and date of the change is not visible.
2. the Todo text also seems to be truncated (see the text for -- to do: @what @where @how exactly should this result set retrieve? (1) in the file I double click to open.
3. after double-clicking a file it opens the file in another tab and also opens another Tasks and Reminders pane, even though I have removed the pin from the pane just seconds before.

Also, it is possible to collapse the todo entries for the files but there is no way to collapse/expand all of them. Could you add that to the context menu of the pane, please?

Please try the latest build 11.1.120. The TO-DO issue is supposed to be fixed in that version. I'm not able to verify that, it somehow worked for me with the previous releases too.
