Hi,

I recently (re) discovered the Performance Dashboard in the SQL Editor.

I had known it was there, but never really used it because I mainly use SQLA in SSMS.

It's a great tool, but there are some improvements that could be made.

# 1 by a long shot is the form. It uses a non-resizable form like a non-modal dialog box.

It should be a normal resizable form, in particular I'd like to maximize it on an extra screen to monitor it.

# 2 I note that a number of the metrics don't work (blank) if you are not local to the machine. I have tried with both Windows Auth and SQL Auth and I'm a domain admin on the servers.

I can distinguish "nothing happening" from "not able to read" because on local machines I get a line that's zero, for example. On a remote machine nothing shows up, not even a zero line

See below. The top connection is my local development machine with Windows Auth and ADO.Net, the bottom one is a very busy production server With Windows Auth and ADO.Net same same everywhere.

Clearly a heavily used proudction box will have more temp tables active than a dev box where I am currently doing nothing

In this next, same thing. Top is local which replicates no where. Bottom is production which has a HA Failover Cluster

Same thing for

Buffer Cache Hit Ratio

Transactions/Sec

Now, Connections and Active is weird.

Both are fine locally, but remotely Running User Queries works, but Open Connections reads Zero. That's different than no line/not reading. However, I know there are hundreds of open connections on the production box, if not thousands.

Disk Queue, File Reads/Writes, Processor Usage and Memory Usage are all fine both locally and remotely.

As for the tabs, with Backup Timing there are 2 different issues.

It works locally, but not remotely (like the Metrics)

However, when it works locally, the chart doesn't scroll and it's unreadable even on my developer box.

And finally, I just love Missing Indexes!

Thanks

Jerry

One more thing.

It would be really great to have export/save as functionality on the dashboard.

I would love to be able to export the tab grids to Excel or even CSV.

Also, for the grids, sorting, filtering, Search.

Thanks

Thanks a ton for your very valuable feedback. It's very helpful and we will certainly look into that ASAP. The dashboard is actually fresh from the oven. It's new in v11.
I 'm going to enter the described issues and suggestions into our tracking database.

OK, I guess I that's why I never noticed it before!

It's a great tool and makes me really want to use the SQL Editor more.

Thank you. It's likely that the fixes for the issues you described in this message thread won't make to the initial v11 rollout. Nevertheless, we are going to address them as quickly as possible and include with the next maintenance release or earlier is permitted.
