Post 24x7 - Proper Back up process Reply with quote
Hi there.
Looking for advise on how to best back up the job data for 24x7. Does the application need to be close down or service turned off? Is there more than one file to back up? Is this something I need to do with windows OS scheduled tasks or can I do it with 24x7? Anything else I need to consider?

Thanks

Hi. It doesn't require anything special, you can backup the entire folder with all the files. It's a good idea to keep at least 3 days of backups in case the latest isn't good for whatever reason.

There is also a predefined template for creating backup/file archiving jobs for the job database file and configuration. Look in the Maintenance Jobs template folder.

ok, great!

So what files should be backed up? You indicate that the job database and configuration files need to be backed up. Also, you indicate the folder could be backed up as an alternative - which folder?

In a minimalist backup scenario, you only need to backup 2 files: the job databases file and preferences.xml. that could be as simple as a file copy to some backup destination.

In a full backup scenario, backup the entire folder in which 24x7 has been installed with all it's sub-folders. This will cover the software itself, the configuration, all job queue states, all predefined and custom job templates, all important log files including outputs of previously run jobs.
