Identifying Process ID's on multiple MSAccess jobs |
|
We have an extensive inventory on Microsoft Access jobs that run on a remote application server that has 24x7 setup and running as a service. Sometimes there are overlapping jobs and I was wondering if there is a way to capture the Process ID on the remote server or otherwise identify the running job in the task manager there so that we can better manage the running jobs. Right now they all show up in the task manager as MSACCESS and it is difficult to know which one is which.

It depends on the Windows OS type. Recent Windows versions are able to show command line in the Task Manager, that extra column can be selected for the View/Columns dialog.
You can add additional parameters to the job command line, for example, add macro @V"job_id" which will have no impact on MS Access, but it will be visible in the Task Manager and will allow you to identify which MS Access process belongs to which job. If your Windows Task Manager doesn't support process command line view, you can use free Microsoft Process Explorer, which is an excellent tool for monitoring running processes. That tool can be run on virtually all Windows version and on all of them it is able to show command lines of running processes.

Thank you, I found the Microsoft Process Explorer and this will be a great help in identifying the processes associated with the jobs. The command line column will tell us what we need to know to see what is running.
