Upgrade 4.1.271 released for 24x7 Scheduler Multi-platform Edition

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Version 4.1.271 is now released. Please note that a new maintenance release for the Windows-only version has been released a few days ago.

Here is a list of cumulative changes since previous public-release version 4.1.255:

1. Command lines for detached jobs started on Windows systems using different user account are now encrypted. User names / passwords do not appear in clear text in Vista Task Manager and other task management utilities capable to display the original command line.
2. Scheduler/agent communications support optional encryption. If encryption is used, network sniffers cannot be used anymore to monitor internal traffic and extract useful data.
3. Introduced graphical job template management and editing interface. Also improved interface for creating jobs from templates.
4. Several sample job templates are preinstalled by default.
5. Added support for timing out all types of detached jobs including script type jobs and database jobs.
6. Fixed several issues with the built-in JavaScript debugger.
7. Fix for bug in remote program type jobs with exit conditions. Remote jobs now return correct exit code and correctly fail if the code does not satisfy the condition.
8. Added automatic warning when running detached jobs that attempt to modify job database or query the job database data. Without this warning it is really unclear why such jobs fail.
9. Fixed issue with API function ReleaseJob returning weird errors.
10. Fixed issue with Mail functions in JavaScript jobs ignoring custom subjects and always using default job subjects
11. Fixed issue with 24x7 job properties editor miscounting steps for script type jobs.
12. Fixed problems with message encoding when sending email messages with attachments using built-in JavaScript functions.
13. Implemented several enhancements in the graphical interface
14. Several other unspecified minor bug fixes.

Attention everyone who uses 24x7 remote agents.

It is important to upgrade agents at the same time when you upgrade scheduler. If you forget to do that and upgrade only the scheduler, your remote jobs may fail to run..

The easiest and fastest way to push the upgrade to agents is stopping agents, copying all JAR, EXE, DLL files from the scheduler install directory, and then restarting agents.

Would you please elaborate on how this is implemented? Are you using SSH tunneling? How secure is a remote agent on a machine directly connected to the public internet compared to one that only accepts remote commands using SSH?

Sorry, I don't know all the details. As far as I know it is using some kind of MD5 based hashing algorithm to encrypt the data before it is sent. The communication uses standard TCP/IP protocol, no SSL is involved. This security mechanism is not designed for use on public network computers, it is probably not strong enough. If you need to run an agent on such computer, consider using a VPN connection which can be secured at the VPN network level, thus protecting all communications.

Hello,

I just installed the 275 version of web console and it's still kind of luck if it's working or not. The old behavior of randomly (?) throwing the following messages in catalina.out is still there...

******************************************************
* Copyright (C) 2000-2007 SoftTree Technologies, Inc.*

* 24x7 Scheduler Java API v4.1. *

[Unloading class sun.reflect.GeneratedMethodAccessor60]
[Unloading class sun.reflect.GeneratedConstructorAccessor66]
Exception in thread "Thread-161" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

In addition this version hangs up the MS-IE sometimes. Sometime the start screen (esp. the menu bar) looks corrupted.

I canot image that this hasn't been tested before release - what could be wrong with my environment.
Web Console is installled in the following:

RedHat 5.2 ES (not customized)
tomcat 5.5 (as deliverd by the RedHat dist. - not customized)
tomcat runs with JAVA 1.5.0_14-b03

tomcat is started with "-Xms384m -Xmx512m" with should be enough the the console - right?

As I said - this does not happen every time. But very often a mininum of 2 login-tries are necessary to get a working web console...

Anything I can do?

Thanks in advance.

This seems like a good candidate for a bug report. OutOfMemory is more or less generic Java error in many cases used instead of "unknown error"

In case you have tracing option enabled in the scheduler and have detailed debug.log available, please send both Tomcat log file and debug.log files to support. We can use them to compare activities on both sides and find out what caused that. If you don't have tracing enabled, please enable it and wait till happens again.

Thank you

We are also facing the same problem again. Was there a solution for this problem.
