No it doesn't use the registry.
So to restate what has been already said. If you use domain account to run the service, please check the following
1. Make sure you used ADM tools to grant that account, "Act as part of the operation system" privilege and also "Create process token" and the account also has all other standard privileges (not handicapped)
2. Make sure the job account got "Logon as a batch job"
3. After you making changes in the security settings, make sure the computer gets restarted, or at the very minimum, you had the affected user logoff and then logon back.
4. If you get anything other than "a client doesn't hold the required privilege" - that error indicates that the job could be started, the accounts has sufficient privileges, but the launched process is trying to access some resources for which the job user is not authorized or which are not accessible in that mode (for example, LocalSystem based process trying to send an email).
I also suggest to try running a simple batch file or just a Notepad with timeout and checking if that works. If the result is positive, then try running the required process. If you get an error in the last case, then it is process specific. Maybe that process cannot run from services because it needs access to the interactive user desktop, OLE, MAPI or something else like that.

Just a follow up to this.
We had to give this account admin privs to be able to run jobs.
We tried giving the account every priv possible but we could not get it to work.
Thanks.
