You likely had or still having an older version of SQL Assistant installed on the same machine in a different directory. To fix this, open SQL Assistant options, locate SSMS target, expand advanced options and uncheck the Add-on option. Click the Apply button and it should remove old entries for the add-on from the registry. Check the Add-on checkbox again and click Apply. It should update the registry and save the correct path. Quit SQL Assistant's Options dialog and sys tray application. Start SSMS and open .any query window. The SQL Assistant should appear in the menu and function as usual.

I will log this case for review in development. A couple of questions that I need answers for.

Which version of SSMS are you running?
Is SQL Assistant helping with SSMS target after this error or it is not working at all?
Do you have Visual Studio installed on the same computer by any chance?

Followed the steps again. Initially received the "Class not registered" pop-up. I now have pop-up help, but no context menu options.

Let's try this

1. Start SSMS. You should get an error that it failed to load the add-in and a prompt to keep or remove. Choose to remove it.

2. Make sure the SQL Assistant running as a sys tray application

3. In SSMS open new query window. Type SELECT and then space. SQL Assistant should popup after SELECT

4. Press Esc to close it. Double-click on the Options, find "MS Management Studio" in targets and expand Advanced Options.

5. Select "True" for Register SQL Assistant Add-on option. Click the Apply button.

6. Restart SSMS. Open a new query. SQL Assistant menu should appear in SSMS menu.

Can anybody who is having this issue, post the contents of HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{754CF073-05B3-4E97-880D-1D88D8D514BE} key?

You can use the registry editor regedit.exe to open this key and export to a .REG file. Please post the text from the REG file.

Thanks. Do you have local admin privileges for the system?
In other words can you make changes in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT part of the registry?

When you ran the setup, did you get any errors?
