We are not on the same page here. In the trace, the SMTP server says that authentication is required to send mail from my email address. 24x7 replies with a Quit. This is different from the server rejecting the email address. But so be it.

Help me, please, to understand how to have 24x7 talk to Outlook Express to have it send mail via MAPI. Is this method in the documentation? Maybe this will solve my problem.

: After 24x7 send "MAIL from" command it exptects to get response
: code 250 meaning that the command was accepted. If it does not that
: response something is wrong and it quits.
: What you did NOT tell me is that in the job log and in the job trace you get
: "The mail server doesn't like the sender name, have you set your mail
: address correctly?" error message meaning that your SMTP server does
: not accept the specified email address.

: That's it about SMTP.

: Now about MAPI. As long as you can send email from Outlook you can use 24x7
: to control Outlook and send emails. This is what MAPI for. You can use
: your MAPI enabled email client to send emails from other programs. From
: 24x7 point of view it does not matter how your email client is setup,
: whether it uses SSL or not. 24x7 "talks" to MAPI client, which
: in your case is MS Outlook and the client in turn "talks" to
: your email server. What client does for this "talking" is
: irrelevant from 24x7 point of view.

SMTP: Your server replies with code 553 instead of 250 and that causes the whole conversation to fail.

In order to use Outlook
1. Select MAPI for the email interface in 24x7 options (Tools/Options) menu
2. In the job properties (I assume you have setup one or more jobs to email on start, error, etc...) enter your MAPI profile name and password (notification action step). To paste the profile name you can use the blue "profile" link.
3. Enter recipient's email address
4. Complete other properties if required and then save changes.

Try running the job. Please note that Outlook can be but does not have to be running at that time.
