Post Load Balancing Reply with quote

Greetings:

Is there any load balancing capability built into 24X7 for balancing between multiple queues on a single machine?

If so, where is it, I can't find it?

If not, are there any plans to add this feature?

Thanks!

There is no such feature. Just out of my curiosity why do you need this? All jobs are still executed on the same machine.

If you need to run a job and ensure it does not get stock in a queue, run this job in a separate queue dedicated to that job only. If you have many jobs like that set them to run asynchronous. This will prevent them from holding each other.

My reasoning for this is that occasionally a job hangs in the queue, effectively stopping the queue from ever running anything again until restart. If there was the ability to run in the first queue available, that 'hung' queue would just be bypassed. Maybe I'm wrong, but if the queue is 'hung' by a hung job, I don't see asynchronous jobs running either.

Agree, if a queue is 'hung' by a hung job, it cannot run anything until the queue is released. New jobs can be added to the queue while it is 'hung'.

So, is there any way to release the queue other than restarting 24X7?

No, there is no such option.

I still don't understand, why you cannot create a separate queue just for this job to make it independent from other jobs? Or why not to put "bad" jobs to a separate job queue?

You can also avoid hanging jobs by running them with a timeout (to allow 24x7 kill the process if it times out). If these jobs are of script or database type, run them detached using "24x7.EXE /JOB" command line version. In that case you can also setup the timeout.
