Is there something special in the setup of Mail I need before the MailSend JAL function works?

I have a Win2K Server, logged on as user "24x7", Exchange profile of "24X7 Admin". I can send via Outlook on that same machine, but when I try to use the MailSend command, I get a rather generic error, "Sending mail failed: Mail Return Failure!". I've had three people retype the profile name and password, and still get the same thing.

Any ideas...?

I set it up as a service, and got the same message...

In many cases MAPI cannot be used with the services, because of the network access and interraction with Desktop (required by MAPI). For the service you should use the SMTP interface.

Here is what you can try.

Create a dummy job that has email notification action. Use the link in the Job Properties Wizard to browse and paste the MAPI profile. Leave password blank. Run the job manually, when MAPI logon dialog comes up enter password and send the message. If it works, paste the same profile and password into MailSend code and delete this dummy job. If it does not work, correct the profile settings.
