Email Not Working When Running As NT Service

I am running 24x7 version 2.1.2 and having problems sending email when running it as an NT service. I get this error:

"An error occured while executing 24x7 script: Line 1: Sending mail failed: Logon Failed!"

Now, the odd thing is, of course, the job works when it's run on the console. I'm using the same MS Exchange profile and login as the service (using "logon as in the services control panel). I've tried changing the profile name but it didn't seem to help.

Any ideas?

MAPI may not work If you start service as a LocalSystem. It may have difficulties accessing network resources. In that case you should use configure and use SMTP email method (see Tools/Options/General tab/Email settings).

OK. I configured it using SMTP and it works. However, I was running it as a user and not LocalSystem, so I'm not sure why MAPI was working. It would be nice to get it to work since I like to use some of the Outlook functionalities.

This is is not a 24x7 Scheduler limitation, but simply the way Windows MAPI (Messaging Application Program Interface) is implemented. MAPI itself requires certain permissions for accessing network resources and communicating with the Exchange (or other) Mail Server.
MAPI also requires access to the User Desktop. When invoked from the 24x7
Service MAPI inherits security attributes of the 24x7 Scheduler including
"no access" to desktop. As a result of that it fails and returns some
errors. Remember that by Windows NT design a service may either have access
to the network or to the desktop (this is by security reasons).

You have the following workarounds:
If you do not need 24x7 to start unattended after computer reboot (using
LocalSystem account) consider running it as normal application, you can place a shortcut to the StartUp menu. In shortcut properties select RunMinimized so that it will appear in the system tray area only.
Or consider using STMP email interface provided with the 24x7.
