Post Installation without MS SQL restart Reply with quote

The documentation mention that MS SQL must be restarted once Sys Audit is setup. However, it also states "In case if you run SQL Server in a 24x7 enviornment and the server cannot be restarted read "Alternative Method to Start System Audit section available later in this chapter.""

The problem is that in both v2.6 and v2.7 documentation (Chap 3) I have not been able to find this section. Can someone direct me to the proper location?

On the server start SQL Query Analyzer or OSQL connect to the database and manually run sp_db_audit_startup procedure. Do not close the tool. That's it.

PS. If you close the tool the connection will be lost and the auditing session will abort.

I ran

USE master
GO
EXEC sp_db_audit_startup
GO

And recieved

ODBC: Msg 0, Level 16, State 1
Cannot load the DLL xp_dbaudit.dll, or one of the DLLs it references. Reason: 126(The specified module could not be found.).

Any idea

I looked at the stored procedure and it looks like it is trying to execute xp_db_audit. However, I noticed a new stored proc named sp_db_audit.

It is trying to use this proc?

You need to copy this DLL from DB Audit directory on your computer to the SQL Server's BIN directory on the server.

: GO

Yes, it will execute it internally, don't run it manually.
