Post DB Alert Reply with quote

Hi,

I've just started to evalute DB Tools. It looks really good for me so I want to buy the version.

There is one remaining problem when I start DB Alert Expert I can't connect to my Oracle 8 database. The message is "Database not available: OR-12514: TNS listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor".
All other modules are working fine. Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
KI

It sounds as you misspelled service name in the connection properties. Please select the same driver and service name that you select in other places

Maybe I am confused, but for db alert I can't specify a host string and only the
profile. The selectable driver in db alert is named "084 Oracle ..." and is
similiar to the other ones. Except that you display here 9i as well but I'm
trying to work with 8i.

Enter your host string into the Server field. The "profile" field is simply a descriptive name for the connection and will be used in alerts and logs as a database reference.
