Encountered the following 4 problems:

1. DB Index Expert doesn't recognize indexes in lower case:
Even though it displays the indexes in the Select/Deselect list, it stops when it encounters them during the analysis.

2. Unable to write report file:
I selected the option of writing the report to a text file but received the following message in a DB Index Wizard pop-up:
Unable to write report file!

DB Index Expert - Analysis Reports
===================================
Table of Contents

Index Analysis Reports

VIGNETTE.pk_el_eventlogid

VIGNETTE.pk_sub_editor
Referential Constraints Without Indexes Report
Library Cache Analysis

Full Table Scans

Used Indexes

SQL Using Full Table Scans

SQL Using Indexes ______

| OK |

3. ANOTHER EFFORT:
After analyzing for two hours, the report should have appeared in preview mode. The report started appearing then crashed with a Dr. Watson error:

Monitor.exe
Exception: Access violation(0xc0000005), Address: 0x106ddd80

4. Evidently tries to evaluate "overflow table" twice. I received the following messages:
>Fri Dec 21 09:15:21 2001
>Errors in file /apps/oracle/admin/SECTP/bdump/sectp_snp1_24635.trc:
>ORA-12012: error on auto execute of job 21
>ORA-25191: cannot reference overflow table of an index-organized table
>ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_DDL", line 179
>ORA-06512: at "ORA_MONITOR.DB_TRENDS", line 1221
>ORA-06512: at "ORA_MONITOR.DB_TRENDS", line 1379
>ORA-06512: at line 1
I sent this to support@softtreetech.com, their reply was:
Please exclude the "overflow table of an index-organized table" from the list of objects to be analyzed. That table is automatically analyzed as a part of the index-organized table analysis.

To exclude/include an object for processing you can use Trends/Trends Selection menu in the DB Monitor Expert.

I have searched for info on "overflow tables" but cannot find a reference. How can I determine which tables are overflow tables so I will know which objects to exclude?

I only have 21 days left on my eval. Thanks.

Here are responses for your comments.
1. Yes, DB Index Expert doesn't recognize objects with non-standard names (upper case, no spaces) as it does not use wrap object names in quotes.

2. Does it work for HTML format?

3. How many indexes have you selected to analyze? If it is a large number (perhaps, you've selected all indexes in the database), try reducing selection to indexes one schema. Note that with all analysis options chosen, every selected index leads to creation of a separate report with several graphs in it. All these things are kept in memory, so with a large number of indexes you can run out of memory, which would cause the described crash.

4. To find out overflow tables, you can run SELECT OWNER, TABLE_NAME FROM DBA_TABLES WHERE IOT_TYPE = 'IOT_OVERFLOW'
