Post Index wizard - resource hog Reply with quote

After only analyzing 80 indexes, my PC slowed to a halt as it ran out of resources.

then, I set the pagefile for 1GB, and let the wizard run overnight. It reached around 380 indexes (out of 2,000) and halted on "Statistics not found on Column XXX, Continue?"

It's annoying. Is there an option to auto-generate statistics if needed?
(like Quest SQL XPert)

Speed it up, don't consume all the resources.

Thanks

You have full control what to include/not include for the analysis.

First of all, you can select only one schema or (several schemas) and not all of them. Secondary, you can select only several indexes in the selected schema() and not all of them. Then you can exclude system objects and then from a bunch of analyzed parameters you pick only the options you really want. For example you can tun off option to analyze data in tables.

Also, note the analysis time is mostly taken by your database while it is running various ANALIZEs and COUNTs

As for the resource usage, I am able to analyze thousands of indexes on my PC (256MB RAM, 268MB page file), so I suspect it is dependent on the machine configuration. One thing that may sound weird, but could help, is to select another printer as a default printer. Also, make sure a default printer is selected. Every index report is generated in the background in the Print Preview mode. If there is no default printer selected, it can cause some side effects.
