Builds (indicated by the last group of digits in the version number) don't have a lot of new changes. They mostly include various fixes, although new enhancements are instantly added. Unless you experience problems with some DB tools components you should not upgrade with each build, we suggest that you wait for major upgrades and maintenance releases. Anyway, here is brief list of changes that were made in recent builds/version (4.0.5 to 4.0.12). You can decide for yourself if there are important things for you. 1. Security Navigator fixed and enhanced, now it shows user privileges acquired indirectly through granted roles and PUBLIC role. It also includes a new filter option to allow show/hide of PUBLIC grants (this option is helpful in Oracle 8i and later with thousands Java classes hogging the security tree). Other graphical improvements, such as new icons, tree elements, color highlights, etc...) 2. All tools should now fully support function-based indexes and should correctly show/analyze and reverse-engineer index columns. 3. Index Expert doesn't show and attempts to analyze anymore indexes that are really index-organized tables. 4. Fixed reverse-engineering scripts for table and index partitions. 5. Fixed Java Editor. On many systems it was simply crashing on startup with the stack overflow error. 6. Some enhancements made in the SQL editor (opening/closing new scripts; support for Oracle 9i keywords, highlighting of system functions, etc...) 7. Database Navigator now supports Operators, Users, Profiles, Roles, and other things. It also provides on the fly code reverse engineering for database files, rollback segments, tablespaces, users, roles, profiles, and some other new items. 7.1 Tablespace reports and graphs improved so it is possible to see many tablespaces. 8. DB Alert Expert does not loose previously entered parameters for LOG_MONITOR and SPACE_MONITOR packages. 9. Fixed several old DB Index regression bugs. It should now build properly data and index histograms as well as be able to optionally save reports in readable HTML and Text files save. 10. Fixed "Select All" and the "Copy" options in all reports and monitors, they now copy data only not including graphics and other "graphical elements" 11. DB Navigator includes enhanced versions of script generating options (right-click on an object then select "Generate and Copy Script" for SELECT, DELETE and a bunch of other SQL operations 12. A number of other minor enhancements. By the way, we will be releasing soon the new maintenance version 4.1.x that will include new component called DB Application Expert, which is in plain words consists of Application Monitoring GUI, and a back-end package designed to monitor, collect, profile and troubleshot database applications. You can use it to find what programs your users run with your database, SQL executed by these programs, resourses required, SQL, locks and other interesting information collected on the application level. Stay tuned. : It would be nice to see list of updates with each new build so we can decide : if we need to upgrade now or later... Does something like this exist : and/or can you point me to it. : thanks
