Post dbtools connection error Reply with quote

I downloaded and installed the dbtools software, when I try to connect to the database I get the following error.

Database not available
ORA-06401:NETCMN.invalid driver designation.

The database server is running fine and the TNSListener service is also on. Could some one help me connect dbtools to the database .
Thanks In Advance.

Trilochan.

ORA-06401 means that the connect string has an invalid
'driver designator'. It usually indicates an error
in typing the string -- @TN:XXXXXX instead of @TNS:XXXXXX --
or a ';' instead of a ':'.

If you are connecting to Oracle 7.x.x, make sure to specify "@" (at sign) in front of the connect string.

I'm working on an Oracle 8i Database and the document suggests that I shouldn't use the @ symbol to connect to the database. I use Enterprize manager and the connection string I use is

MachineName:PortNumber:SID

it works fine with enterprize manager, but when I use the same connection string to connect to the database with dbtools I get the ORA-06401 error.
could you sujjest a solution for this problem thanks.

For the connect string you should use Net Service Name as it is specified in your TNSNAMES file. You can use "Net8 Easy Config" or "Net8 Assistant" utility to view/modify Net Service Names.
