Post SSMS.exe failed to load SqlAssist.DocMng.dll Reply with quote
Received this error in SSMS 2014 for the 9.0 beta. What do we need to do to get this fixed?

Correction: also fails to load in SSMS 2012 but launches in 2008 R2.

Please open SQL Assistant Options dialog, click the About tab, the click the troubleshooting link at the bottom. This will generate the self diagnostics log file.

Please post the contents of the file. It should refer to some errors related to the addon registration.

Post Reinstalled - here are the errors Reply with quote
I uninstalled and reinstalled 7.5 - when I just now retried the install for 9.0 I got an error stating the self-integrity check failed. I then selected to correct the issues and continued. Here is the debug log:

The errors are different, refer to different components.
Here is what I would do. Start SQL Assistant in Run as Administrator mode.
Open the Options dialog.
On the Targets page select Management Studio target
In the Advanced options section on the right change add on registration status to No, click Apply, then set it back to Yes and Apply again. That should do it.
Start SQL. Server Management Studio and see if the error is gone.

This did not work - still getting the error in both 2014 and 2012. After opening a new query window - I get an error stating: SQL Assistant is unable to join database connection in MS Management Studio and SSMS crashes.

Still seeing the same issues in the diagnostic log - both the add-in failed and the manifest not found.

That indicates that the add on isn't registered correctly. Basically SSMS isn't loading it or some parts of it.

I'm asked for advice from our team on how to resolve that and this is what they asked to check

Check this COM registration in the registry:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{754CF073-05B3-4E97-880D-1D88D8D524BE}]
"AppID"="{754CF073-05B3-4E97-880D-1D88D8D524BE}"
@="SqlAssist.CSmsAddin10"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{754CF073-05B3-4E97-880D-1D88D8D524BE}\InprocServer32]
@="mscoree.dll"
"CodeBase"="C:\\Program Files\\SQL Assistant\\data\\SqlAssist.DocMng.dll"
"Assembly"="SqlAssist.DocMng, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null"
"Class"="SqlAssist.CSmsAddin10"
"RuntimeVersion"="v4.0.30128"
"ThreadingModel"="Both"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{754CF073-05B3-4E97-880D-1D88D8D524BE}\ProgId]
@="SqlAssist.CSmsAddin10"

In version 7.5 this COM object was in SqlAssist.vs.dll. Verify that after installing 9.0 it now refers to SqlAssist.DocMng.dll

Hi all,

Please download and install the latest build 9.0.152. In this build the setup routines have been updated to resolve the issue with incorrect registry entries left from previous SQL Assistant versions. If after that you still receive SQL Server Management Studio add-on loading errors, please run saDiag.exe and post the output of that self-diagnostics test.

Sql Assistant is unable de join database connection in MS Management Studio. Ma ke sure the connection has been established and working ( result code = 0)
I'm connect on a sqlserver version 12.0.500 with sqlserver authentification and with a IP on name server.

It appears you still have an issue with the add-on. To resolve that, please uninstall SQL Assistant version 7.x Restart your computer and then reinstall the latest beta 9.0.152. This will reolve the error with connections sharing, and add-on loading.

Basically the problem is caused by a conflict with add-on from version 7.5 or earlier. The above steps will fix it.

Yes with uninstall of previous version i don't have the error.
I have a message on first launch on sqlmanagement studio about sqlassist.DocMng.dll and sqlassist.vs.dll .
One replace the other. but after it's ok.
I have a crash when i closed sqlmanagement studio first time but now it seems that all is ok.

Okay - I installed 9.0.152 without uninstalling 7.5. No errors on the install but when I launch SSMS 2014 the version of SQL Assistant that is running is the 7.5 version and not the 9.0 version. I am going to uninstall and reinstall and see what happens. Here is the results from the diag tool:

Post Working now Reply with quote
Uninstalled and removed the directory for SQL Assistant 9. Renamed the directory for SQL Assistant 7 and restarted - reinstalled SQL Assistant 9 and launched SSMS 2014. I was prompted from SSMS that the addin no longer existed and did I want to remove it - selected yes.

SQL Assistant 9 seems to be working now - will be testing and evaluating it further.

The diag tool still shows a manifest issue though - not sure if that is something that we should be worried about.

Thank you for good news. It looks like everyone who reported an issue with add-on loading in SSMS was eventually able to resolve it.
