Post Target options resets Reply with quote
Hello!

SA 7.4.435
SSMS 2014
Windows 8.1

I think is some kind of bug.
I created new format style (copy of T-SQL Default Style with my changes), new refactoring rule (copy of default), new list of snippets (copy of default), etc.
In targets options I set my settings for "MS Management Studio" target: SQL Reference = MSSQL T-SQL 2012; Code Formatting Style = My new T-SQL Style; Code Snippets = My new T-SQL Snippets; Code Refactoring = My new Code Refactoring.

Over time of work I got default settings. Again I set my settings and over time it reseted. This can occur after I open script file from disk or after I create new query window.
How to catch the cause of reset?

It's most likely Windows UAC interfering. When you make config changes, please disable UAC or run the target editor from where you edit the options in Run as Administrator mode. A better solution is to run SQL Assistant system tray application in Run as Administrator mode and make all configuration changes using that application to ensure they apply to all running targets and targets don't overwrite each others changes.

Didn't help.
UAC is disabled.

SQL Assistant with Admin rights. Now, when this happens, options from tray sql assistant is correct, but options from SQL Assistant menu in SSMS shows me default settings.

Please try restarting your computer. hope this will help.

If after restart in SSMS you steel see old or default settings, something is wrong with your installation, something is being retrieved from wrong location, for a example, a virtualized Windows folder. You may need to reinstall the software.

It is enough to restart the SSMS and settings will be correct.
I tried to delete SA, reboot the computer and re-install. No results :(

I don't think I understand well you issue. Some of your messages seem to be contradicting to me. If after SSMS restart you see correct settings, then your changes aren't lost.

Are you saying that you loose your changes in the settings or that in some situations you see default settings instead of custom settings. Is that something you can reproduce on demand or it's random? When it happens, if you switch to a different SSMS tab in the same SSMS instance, do you see custom or default settings in that tab? When it happens, if you open a different SSMS instance, , do you see custom or default settings in that instance?

It happens randomly.
For example. I start my workday. I open SSMS - settings is correct. SSMS works fine. I work with few opened tabs in SSMS. When I next time open file from disk settings resets to default. In all tabs in SSMS settings is default. Now I need close and restart SSMS or to open target settings and set my options (ctr + shift + F5).

I can reproduce in the next sequence.
Open SSMS - settings is correct.
From the SA tray icon call Options, make some changes (for example switch off Notepad from registered targets) and save changes - click OK.
Now in SSMS I have default settings.

I tried use SA tray with and without administrator rights.
