PAM Authentication not working when FTP is blocked |
|
We have installed 24x7 version 4.4 on a windows 2003 server and an agent of the same is running on a HP-UX machine. We could successfully connect to the agent running on HP-UX from the master running on windows 2003 using both PAM and FTP authentication method. As a company policy ftp has to be blocked and SFTP is to be used. When FTP is blocked the PAM authentication stopped working to connect to the agent running HP-UX machine. Please suggest a solution at the earliest.

Hi,
I doubt PAM authentication has any dependency on FTP daemon running. I suspect you are still using FTP authentication instead of PAM that's why it stopped working. To verify which method is used, please open preferences.xml and check the authMethod value. For PAM, the line text should be
<property name="authMethod" type="3" value="PAM"/>

The entry in the preferences.xml is PAM only, just like the way you provided.

The issue has been resolved. We were looking at the preferences.xml on the master not on the agent. We changed the the necessary changes in the agent and the problem got resolved.
Thank you.
