Post Remote Control Reply with quote

When I try to use 24x7 Remote Control I run into the following issue.

If I try to run a job that is a Remote Job ( doesn't run on the master scheduler server )the job gets a Remote Job Execution Error. Exit code -1

If the job runs locally to the Master Scheduler Server the job executes properly. I think that a work around for this may be to create another job that runs locally and uses the JobRun JAL statement to execute the job I really want to run but that is an extra step and makes things a little messy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank You

What's in the remote job log?

Does the remote job access other jobs, user-defined statements, global variables, or other resources that do not exist there or a remote job can not use?

There is nothing in the Remote Job log. It doesn't appear to get that far.

The remote job is just running a DOS batch file on a Remote Agent:

Dim nExitCode, Number
RunAndWait( "H:\\EXPORTS\\CLNUS.BAT", "", 0, nExitCode )

Configurations:

Master Scheduler ------ Remote Agent (OK)
Remote Control ----- Master Scheduler (OK, if job can execute local)
Remote Control ----- Master Scheduler ----- Remote Agent (Failure)

Remote Control --> Master Scheduler --> Remote Agent
execution schema should work if:
1. Master has the correct profile for Remote Agent selected in the properties of the job being executed.
2. Master has the same job in the master job database as the job submited using Remote Control (make sure you "save to remote" before executing the job)
3. Remote Agent listens on a different port (Master -- > Remote Agent uses communication port different from the port selected for Remote Control --> Master Scheduler connection.

The Master Scheduler is on Port 10099 (default)
The Remote Agent is on 10095
The Master and Remote Control both have the Remote Agent Profile.

If I select run Local in Remote Control the job runs fine.

If I Select run Remote in Remote Control the job fails.

While I can execute the jobs locally without a problem the issue I have with that is the fact that the jobs while they execute do not appear in the scheduler log only in the job log of the Remote Control Agent. So if you go and look at the status report that is generated on the Master Scheduler or even the Log viewer in the Remote Control it looks as if the job was never executed.

I have no problem doing local executions if there is some way to syncronise the logs.

That's correct. When the job is submited (think of this as tested) from the Remote Control, only the job definition is send to the Master, or Agent, not the command to execute the selected job.

The job processing consists of 4 parts:
*----------*....*-------------*....*---------*....*-------------------------*
|..schedule.|.....|..job pre-run..|.....|..job run..|......|..post-run notify & error..|
|...logic......|-->|....logic..........|-->|....logic....|-->|..handling logic.................|
*----------*....*-------------*....*---------*....*-------------------------*

Only the third part is executed by the remote component.
When you use the Remote Control to run remote job, you basically tell it to send the job definition and run the sent job definition. This is not exactly the same as say "run remote job ABC".

Using Remote Control create "program type" job with command line like "24x7 /JOB[main job name]". Send this job to the Master and it will run your [main job name] on the Remote Agent specified in the [main job name] properties.

: The Master and Remote Control both have the Remote Agent Profile.
