Post Lost Jobs Reply with quote

I have just started using 24x7, it is only on 1 pc (windows 95), this machine is basically always on. Twice in the last month I have came in only to find that it application is no longer running, upon restarting the application the dozen jobs that I had created and saved no longer exist at all. The only trace that I can find that they ever existed at all is the schedule log. THIS IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING as these jobs took some to create, does this product have no means to save its jobs, or to restore them? or am I missing something. PLEASE HELP

1) Jobs don't disappear by itself. Something must delete them before they disappear. If you are sending keystrokes to other applications make sure that such keystrokes don't go astray. In theory to delete all jobs from a single folder only two wrong keys is needed in order to delete the whole folder. Another possibility is that some of your jobs (maybe one of the example jobs you are still using) deletes other jobs by using JobDelete statement or via 24x7 Scheduler API or maybe something is replacing the job database file using some older copy.

2) It is a rule of thumb to backup files in development and production environments. If you have a backup of your job database (the current .DAT file) you may want to restore it.

The dozen jobs that I had created (all just sql commands to an oracle database (which is on a server reached via odbc via a LAN), updates, etc) were created in the "dynamic jobs" folder that comes with the application, the other 8 example folders I have not touched. These jobs have been running for over 2 weeks with out fail, most of them 3 or 4 times a day. The last entry in the schedule.log file was a correct finishing of a job at 7 pm last night. This machine also has a password protected screen saver and is in front of a security camera, so I have verified that no one deleted these jobs. What I can surmise is that most likely maybe the server went down or any part of the lan connection that is used to connect to it. The PC itself did not indicate any errors on the screen, just the "24x7" icon was missing from the task bar. Upon restarting 24x7 (24x7.exe) the application (jobs,) when launched appeared exactly as it did when I first received it, just the examples. The only files in the 24X7 folder that had a newer date were; schedule.log (todays date) , 24x7.gid (date = 5/19/2000, about time that I created all of the jobs), and 24x7.fts, (date also 5/19/2000). The only .DAT file that exists "example jobs.dat" date is 4/10/2000 which is the same date it was when I loaded the appliation about 3 weeks ago. If this is the .dat file that is used when launching 24x7, it does not appear to save any of the jobs that I create when the application is halted. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your fast response to my earlier request,
dan

"example jobs.dat" date is 4/10/2000 -- this means that the file was replaced with an older copy. The file date should be at least 5/19/2000 - the last time you saved your changes. Did you install a upgrade after that? Do you have a backup of this file?

In general, please don't use the "example jobs" for your production jobs as it can be overwritten by the feature versions of the 24x7. Migrate all your real jobs to a different job database (see "File/New/Job Database" and Tools/Database Manager")
