Post NT Service Error Reply with quote

I was trying to setup 24x7 v2 to run as a service and get the following error:
"Open Service Control Manager Error. Error 5 - Access is denied"

I'm logged in as Domain Admin and have permission to do everything.
running WIN NT 4.0 (SP5) workstation.

The following error codes may be set by the service control manager. Other error codes may be set by the registry functions that are called by the service control manager.

Error code -------------- Meaning
5 - ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED The requested access was denied.
1065 - ERROR_DATABASE_DOES_NOT_EXIST The specified database does not exist.
86 - ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER A parameter that was specified is invalid.

You get error #5 - ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED. Either you don't have permissions to modify services on the machine where you try it or something wrong with the NT setup.

You can also try to manually setup the service in the registry. You will need to use 24x7srv.exe as an "image" to be started. Copy any existing service and modify properties for DisplayName, ImagePath, ObjectName. After you restart the machine you can complete other settings using the Control Panel/Services applet

See HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Service

"Could not start the 24x7 Scheduler service: Error 0193: %1 is not a valid Windows NT application"

Do you have spaces by any chance in the path to the service?
If yes, try changing it to the DOS format (short names only). May be this will help. The quick way to do this is to update ImagePath in the registry, please see my previous post for details. If you decide to update the resitry then you don't need to re-install anything, just start the service from Control Panel.

I tried that and it did not help. I tried running the 24x7srv.exe and get the same message. Is there a list of dependent DLL that are needed for this program to run, so I can check if everything is installed. I've tried this on two different machine I got the same error.

The 24x7srv.exe from the package v2.0.0 recently posted for download on this web site appears to be damaged (a few bytes missing). If you have an older version of 24x7 (1.6.x) you can take it from there. Otherwise, let me know and I will email it to you.
